a cure for the common block

Something Blue

The old woman could feel the Winter in her bones, it was the sharp ache unique to the oncoming freeze. She kept her apartment comfortably warm, but the freeze wasn’t just a drop in temperature, it was a change in the environment, inescapable and inevitable. It was her 83rd birthday, but not actually different than any other day, since she hadn’t seen any of her children or grandchildren in almost six years, but she wasn’t lonely, her hobbies kept her busy and active and mentally fit. She put the finishing touches on her latest work, painting the flesh on the corporal and carefully placing him in position on the battlefield, another brave soldier fighting in Gettysburg.
