Scary Monsters

Mary stood in the doorway, trying to catch her breath, but she had to keep moving; the halls twisted and turned, and doors were unpredictable, but she couldn’t waste time thinking her way through the labyrinth, not with that thing tracking her. She heard all manner of sounds coming from the rooms behind the doors as she passed them, but one sound made her stop in her tracks. It was a song, a familiar song from her childhood, and as she focused to remember the song she had an epiphany, that this was just a dream. She awoke sideways in her bed, tangled in a burrito of bedsheets, relieved… until she realized she was late for work.
