“The good news is”, the doctor began, “that we can treat the affected area,
hopefully with minimal permanent damage.” This brought out a momentary sigh of
relief from Gus, which faded upon hearing the inevitable “but,” the doctor
continued “the bad news is that Marcel will have to be put down and tested for
rabies.” Three days later Gus held the sedated badgers paw as they administered
the final injections.
